Our culture, our identity!
Our identity, our right!
About
Traveling into some of most remote regions in the Indian subcontinent, interacting with various indigenous, traditional, occupational, nomadic and other minority communities, our collective is developing its work and activities depending on issues that the communities identify as immediate and imminent to their lives. Applying a unique caste-gender-poverty intersectional approach, the collective works extensively on mobilisation, awareness and access to rights, with the vision of building youth leadership that will create deeper sociopolitical impact within communities.
Today, our collective has built great relationships, induced strong community participation, stroked robust dialogue and advocacy, apart from starting a one of a kind documentation process of cultural practices, arts, crafts, livelihoods, socio-political structures, and lifestyles.
Ek Potlee Ret Ki / Kaani Nilam is a collective with a majority of young women in decision making roles and we steadfastly work towards facilitating women and young people's participation and leadership in the 56 communities across Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh we work with.
Concerned by the increase in instances of caste and religious violence, and the embroilment of young people in such conflicts, the collective has been focusing on issues of cultural rights and diversity; identify underlying causes of such conflicts, especially involving youth, and execute sustainable multi-level interventions, keeping in mind the social, economic and political milieu in which such polarisations take place.
